TIPP

TIPP is an IP Planning application for network departments of organizations with medium- to large-size networks. While providing all the necessary functions for keeping track of your IP and network allocations, it combines the simplicity of design and use with a clean and thoroughly modern look and feel.

Features

Some of the features of TIPP:

  • A tree view of allocations based on categories ("classes") of network ranges;
  • A tree view of allocations based on supernetworks;
  • Simple and intuitive creation of new networks belonging to a particular category - just select the category ("class") and the desired size and TIPP will select an optimum allocation with a minimal fragmentation, while retaining an ability to specify exactly which network to allocate;
  • Full history of all IP and network edits is preserved and viewable - it is easy to rollback an unwanted change;
  • IPv6 support;
  • A powerful free-form search facility, both for IPs and networks;
  • A complete searchable changelog for auditing purposes;
  • A tool for showing IP usage statistics;
  • Easy viewing of available free space;
  • Two-click splitting of an existing network into several smaller networks;
  • Easy merge of adjacent networks into a single one;
  • Ability to assign arbitrary multiple tags to networks and view individual tags with their associated networks;
  • CSV export of networks with customizable layout;
  • Basic installation instructions are available.

Also, TIPP is an open source application and thus is easy to customize, modify, extend, and integrate with other tools like DNS or DHCP management. TIPP is provided under a very liberal BSD-style license.

Browser compatibility

TIPP will work fine with any recent Firefox, Opera, Safari, and Chrome.

It sort of works with IE 7.0 and above, but there is a number of kinks to be sorted out. It definitely will not work at all with previous versions of IE.

Try it yourself

You are welcome to try TIPP yourself. When requested for a username and the password, answer "guest" for both.

At this stage there are no releases of TIPP available for download.

Future of TIPP

In no particular order, here's what's planned for future releases:

  • import from CSV;
  • IP availability checks (pinging);
  • editing ranges of IP addresses at once;
  • plugin architecture for better integration with the existing systems;
  • automated install script;
  • fine-grained access control;
  • an ability to define new classes;
  • user documentation;
  • API documentation;
  • other things you suggest.
